Scientific topics from sermons- Lesson (134): "Have We not made the Earth kifata (a stable abode that attracts things to itself)?!"

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful

The meaning of the aya:

In His noble Quran our Lord, Allah, All-Mighty, says,

“Have We not made the earth Kifata (a stable abode that attracts things to itself) for the living and the dead?!”

[Al-Mursalat; 25,26]

In Arabic, the word “kifata” is derived from the word “kafata”, which means “seize”, “attract” and“embrace”. In other words, the noble Quran confirms that the Earth has the quality of attracting things to itself, which provides clear reference to the Earth’s force of gravity, since all things on the Earth’s surface are attracted to its center. The weight of things on the Earth’s surface symbolizes the force of gravity whereby the earth attracts them; and such force of gravity is in positive proportion with the size of the Earth. This means that a person whose weight on the Earth is 100 kg’s weighs only 1/6 of his weight on the Moon’s surface. In other words, a person whose weight on the Earth’s surface is 60 kg’s weighs only 10 kg’s on the Moon’s surface! Therefore, the weight of something on the Earth is the force of gravity whereby the earth attracts it to its center; and the weight of something on the Moon is the force of gravity whereby the Moon attracts it to its center. In this context, we reiterate Allah’s Words

“Have We not made the earth Kifata (a stable abode that attracts things to itself) for the living and the dead?!”.

What would life on the Earth be like without the force of gravity? How could water remain on the Earth’s surface if it were not attracted to it?! How could the air remain attracted to the Earth’s surface without its force of gravity. If the Earth did not attract the air, it would remain stable while the Earth would be moving, which would cause currents of wind whose speed would be 1600 km/h; and that would be enough to devastate everything on the Earth’s surface.
What makes the air constantly fixed to the Earth? It is the force of gravity. And who keeps the seas fixed to the Earth by the force of gravity?!
It is well known that weightlessness is something unbearable. In this context, Allah, All-Mighty, says,

“Is not He (Allah) Who has made the Earth as a stable abode?!”

[An-naml, 61]

In other words, Allah, All-Mighty, has made the Earth in constant motion but stable enough for things to be fixed thereon and attracted thereto. Weights of things are but the Earth’s force of gravity whereby it attracts them to itself. Once again, we reiterate Allah’s Words
“Have We not made the earth Kifata (a stable abode that attracts things to itself) for the living and the dead?!”
Some people wrongly fancy that in the end, the Earth will attract man to its interior as he is buried therein. But Allah, All-Mighty, says

“Have We not made the earth Kifata (a stable abode that attracts things to itself) for the living and the dead?!”

In other words, a living human being is constantly fixed to the Earth and attracted to it. His weight represents the Earth’s force of gravity whereby he is attracted to its center. Once more, we repeat Allah’s Words

“Have We not made the earth Kifata (a stable abode that attracts things to itself) for the living and the dead?!”

Are not such words Allah’s Words?! Beyond a shadow of doubt, these definitive undisputable scientific theories and facts are mentioned in Allah’s Book, the noble Quran.
